Conditions of participation:

2️⃣ You will get a Game Link via eMail. Check your spam folder. Contact support at award@eusec.net.
Game Control:
⏯️ START, PAUSE, CONTINUE: To start, open the link in the eMail. To pause, just close the browser or tab. You can pause and return hours or days later to the game. To continue, open the link again. We will add new points to your old score.️ For every PAUSE, you receive a penalty: 0 points for the currently open question (the question is "burned").
⏯️ END or STOP: The game ends when you answer all questions. To stop the game earlier, just close the browser or tab and never open the game again. We will consider only the score until then.

What do I get?

Why an official university email?:
This ensures a fair competition, avoids misuse or Bot attacks. Your eMail and name is stored encrypted in our database. It is strictly for verification purposes only. We guarantee that no institutional rankings will be published, and your university's name will never be displayed on the leaderboard. Your identity and academic origin remain confidential. If you win, you can disclose it in the winning ceremony.

Terms & Conditions

1. Organizer, Scope, and Legal Nature

1.1 The Online Cyber Quiz Game (hereinafter referred to as the “Game”) is organized by:

1.2 These Terms & Conditions govern the entire contractual relationship between the participant and the organizer. The Game and the platform are directed exclusively at the target audience defined in Section 2.4.

1.3 The Game is designed strictly as a voluntary online competition for educational and talent identification purposes. It is explicitly classified as a game of skill (wissensbasiert) and not a game of chance (Glücksspiel).

1.4 The laws of the Federal Republic of Germany shall apply exclusively. Mandatory consumer protection provisions of the participant's country of residence remain unaffected.

2. Eligibility and Conditions of Participation

2.1 General: Participation is voluntary and at the participant’s own expense. There is no legal entitlement to participate. The organizer reserves the right to refuse participation or block accounts for justified reasons.

2.2 Academic Status: Participants must be actively enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in a relevant field (e.g., IT, Cybersecurity, Digital Forensics, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, or similar). The organizer reserves the right to verify university enrollment.

2.3 Regional Restrictions: Participation is strictly limited to students enrolled at universities physically located in the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or Switzerland. Enrollments at universities outside these regions (e.g., in the USA, Brazil, China, or Russia) are strictly excluded, regardless of the student's nationality.

2.4 Exclusion of Competitors: Employees, owners, consultants, or affiliates of companies that compete with the organizer (BaySec) or provide substantially similar services—Including, but not limited to in the fields of cybersecurity talent identification, professional cyber-competitions, or specialized cybersecurity recruitment—are strictly excluded from participation. The organizer reserves the right to disqualify any participant at any time if a professional conflict of interest is identified.

3. Technical Requirements and Data Protection

3.1 Technical Setup: Participants are solely responsible for ensuring the technical requirements necessary to play the Game (e.g., a stable internet connection, a modern web browser, and enabled JavaScript). The organizer assumes no responsibility for technical failures, connection drops, or hardware issues on the participant’s side.

3.2 Data Protection (GDPR): The collection and processing of personal data—including detailed behavioral and telemetry data for anti-cheat purposes (e.g., tab-switches, mouse movements)—is carried out strictly in accordance with our separate Data Privacy Declaration. Participants must acknowledge the Data Privacy Declaration prior to registration.

4. Game Structure, Rules, and Scoring

4.1 Gameplay: The Game consists of multiple-choice questions designed to test knowledge and analytical skills. Each question must be answered within a strict time limit (e.g., max. 70 seconds).

4.2 Scoring: Points are awarded based on correctness. There are no negative points. A time bonus (e.g., 25% extra points) may be awarded for answering correctly in under 10 seconds.

4.3 Pausing (Burned Question): Participants may pause the Game by closing the browser. However, pausing during an active question will result in a penalty: the currently active question is "burned" and yields 0 points.

4.4 Final Ranking & Tie-Breaker: Ranking is based on total points. In case of equal scores (a tie), a detailed time analysis will be conducted. The participant with the faster total response time will be ranked higher.

4.5 Finality: The organizer's decisions regarding gameplay, scoring, and final rankings are final. The organizer's evaluation of the answers and the technical time-tracking are final. The legal recourse is excluded solely regarding the evaluation of the participants' performance.

5. The 12-Role Report (Disclaimer)

5.1 After completing the Game, participants may receive a "12-Role Report" evaluating their performance. This report is for informational purposes only. It does not constitute professional, psychological, or career advice. The organizer bears absolutely no liability for any personal or career decisions taken by the participant based on this report.

5.2 Optional Career-Booster (Job Placement Service): If the participant actively selects the "Career-Booster" option during registration, they formally engage the organizer to act as a job broker. The organizer will present performance profiles to interested companies, but without the real name of the participant. The organizer explicitly discloses that it acts commercially and may receive a commission from hiring companies. The participant's identifiable data will only be shared with a company after securing additional, explicit consent from the participant. This brokerage service is completely free of charge for the participant and can be terminated at any time.

6. Fair Play, Anti-Cheat, and Disqualification

We enforce a strict Zero Tolerance policy. The Game is solo work. Any violation will result in an immediate disqualification and a potential permanent ban from future EUSEC events. Participants have the right to request a manual review of their ban within 14 days. Prohibited conduct includes, but is not limited to:

7. Confidentiality and Intellectual Property

7.1 All Game content, including questions and structure, is the protected intellectual property of BaySec.

7.2 No Recording: It is strictly prohibited to record, reproduce, or distribute the Game. This includes, e.g., taking screenshots, using screen capture software, or photographing the screen.

7.3 Violations of confidentiality will lead to immediate disqualification. The organizer expressly reserves the right to claim damages (Schadensersatz) for intellectual property violations.

8. Liability and Force Majeure

8.1 The organizer shall be liable without limitation for intent, gross negligence, and injury to life, body, or health.

8.2 In cases of slight negligence, liability is limited to breaches of essential contractual obligations (cardinal duties) and to foreseeable, typical damages. Any further liability is excluded.

8.3 Force Majeure: The organizer is exempt from any liability and assumes no responsibility if the Game must be paused, aborted, or annulled due to technical problems, third-party service failures, cyberattacks (e.g., DDoS attacks), or force majeure.

8.4 The organizer reserves the right to modify, suspend, or terminate the Game prematurely for valid reasons (e.g., severe security threats, massive cheating waves, or threats against the organizer) without participants being entitled to compensation, provided the termination was not caused by the organizer's gross negligence or willful misconduct.

9. CYBER 4 CHARITY: Donations and Awards

9.1 General Terms and Identity Verification
Details regarding specific donations, awards, and the winning criteria are published on the official Game website. Prizes awarded for reaching the 1st place are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash. To ensure integrity, potential winners must verify their identity in a brief validation call before any awards are confirmed.

9.2 Revocation of Awards (Clawback Clause)
The organizer reserves the right to retroactively revoke any titles, rankings, or certificates if it is discovered that a participant obtained them through fraud, deception, or cheating. This applies specifically to violations of the Zero Tolerance Fair Play Policy (Section 6) or the provision of false, fraudulent, or misleading information regarding identity or eligibility (Section 2). In such cases, any claim to the donation or prize is forfeited.

9.3 Non-Profit Requirements and Compliance
Donations can only be transferred to organizations that meet the following criteria:

  • Legal Status: The recipient must be a legally established non-profit organization recognized under the respective national law of a participating country.
  • Compliance: The donation must not be linked to illegal activities or sanctioned entities.
  • Vetting: We reserve the right to conduct background checks before the final transfer.
  • Alternative Selection: Should there be any indication that a donation to the selected organization would violate legal requirements or sanctions, the winner must select an alternative, eligible non-profit organization.

10. Final Provisions and Dispute Resolution

10.1 Severability Clause: If any provision of these Terms is or becomes invalid, the remaining provisions shall remain fully unaffected.

10.2 B2B Jurisdiction: If the participant acts as a merchant, a legal entity under public law, or a special fund under public law, the exclusive place of jurisdiction for all disputes arising from this contract is Anger, Germany.

10.3 Consumer Dispute Resolution: The European Commission provides a platform for online dispute resolution (ODR), available at: https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr/. The organizer is neither obliged nor willing to participate in a dispute resolution procedure before a consumer arbitration board.

10.4 German interpretation leading: These Terms are written in English. However, since the contract is governed by German law, the legal interpretation of terms, concepts, and provisions shall be construed in accordance with German legal understanding.

10.5 Changes of these terms & conditions as well as rules: The organizer reserves the right to amend these Terms for future iterations of the Game. The version of the Terms valid at the time of the participant's registration shall apply.

I explicitly consent to the collection and processing of my behavioral data (e.g., mouse movements, tab switches) and device information by the Fair-Play Tracking to ensure a fair competition. Welcome to the EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS - Student Cyber Awards. Protecting your privacy and personal data is of the utmost importance to us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your data when you register for and participate in our online game in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Controller of Data Processing

The entity responsible for the processing of your personal data (the "Controller" under Art. 4 No. 7 GDPR) is:

2. What Data We Collect and Why

We only collect data that is strictly necessary to host the tournament, ensure a fair competition, and (if you choose) provide career placement services.

A. Account Registration and Master Data

  • Data: Real name, nickname, team name, date of birth, email address, country, and verification codes.
  • Purpose: To establish your participant profile, verify you meet the eligibility requirements, and send you your unique game link and final 12-Role Report.
  • Legal Basis: Performance of a Contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

B. Gameplay Data and Scoring

  • Data: The questions displayed to you, exact timestamps of when a question was displayed and answered, your selected answers, and your total score.
  • Purpose: To evaluate your performance, calculate the leaderboard ranking, resolve tie-breakers, and generate your personal 12-Role Report.
  • Legal Basis: Performance of a Contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

C. Anti-Cheat System and Behavioral Telemetry

To ensure a fair competition for all participants and protect the integrity of the awards, we employ a strict Anti-Cheat System. We use technical watermarking labels and hidden characters. While you are playing, this system collects telemetry data in the background:

  • Data: IP address, browser agent, operating system info, session token hash, timestamps, time to first click (in milliseconds), number of tab-switches (when your browser window loses focus), copy/paste attempts, window resizing events, and rough mouse movement patterns.
  • Explanation: We process this specific behavioral data solely to detect the use of bots, automated scripts (e.g., Selenium), and unauthorized external research (e.g., switching tabs to search for an answer).
  • No Automated Decision-Making: We do not use fully automated decision-making processes (Art. 22 GDPR) to issue bans. While our Anti-Cheat System flags suspicious behavioral telemetry, every decision to disqualify or permanently ban a participant is carefully reviewed and manually executed by a human analyst.
  • Legal Basis: Access to your terminal equipment and the subsequent processing of this telemetry data is based exclusively on your explicit Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and the European ePrivacy Directive 2002/58/EC) provided during registration.

D. Audit Logs

  • Data: System-level logs of database changes (e.g., old values vs. new values, timestamps, and user IDs).
  • Purpose: To maintain a revision-proof history of the game's integrity and to investigate potential hacking attempts.
  • Legal Basis: Legitimate Interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) and legal obligations for IT security (Art. 32 GDPR).

E. Optional Career-Booster (Job Brokerage Service)

If you actively opt-in to our "Career-Booster" service during registration, you engage us to act as a career broker you engage us to act as a career broker and consent to the profiling of your gameplay data to connect you with potential employers.

  • Step 1 (Pseudonymized Profile): We create a pseudonymized profile based on your 12-Role Report, game score, and academic field. We share only this pseudonymized data with partner companies seeking talent. They cannot identify you directly from this data, and only BaySec holds the information necessary to re-identify your profile.
  • Step 2 (Explicit Consent & International Transfers): If a company is interested in your pseudonymized profile, we will contact you directly. We will only reveal your real name, email, and contact details to that specific company if you give us your explicit, case-by-case consent to establish the connection. Our partner companies may be located internationally. If an interested company is located outside the European Union or the European Economic Area (a "third country"), we will explicitly inform you of the destination country and request your specific consent for this international data transfer (Art. 49(1)(a) GDPR) before any personal data is shared.
  • Transparency Notice: EUSEC® acts as a commercial headhunter in this process and may receive a placement or introductory fee from the hiring company if a successful match occurs.
  • Legal Basis: Execution of a free brokerage agreement (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). The final transmission of identifiable data is based on your explicit Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).

F. Security and Technical Organisational Measures (TOMs)

For security reasons and to protect the transmission of confidential data, such as your registration details or gameplay telemetry, this platform uses SSL/TLS encryption. You can recognize an encrypted connection by the lock icon in your browser's address bar. Furthermore, in accordance with Art. 32 GDPR, we have implemented strict technical and organizational measures to ensure the ongoing confidentiality, integrity, and resilience of our systems. These include, but are not limited to, regular system backups, tamper-proof audit logs, and strict code verification steps.

3. How Long We Keep Your Data (Data Retention)

We store your personal data only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined above:

  • Tournament Data: Your gameplay data, anti-cheat telemetry, and account information will be automatically deleted 6 months after the official conclusion of the tournament and distribution of the reports.
  • Career-Booster Profile: If you opted into the job brokerage service, your active brokerage profile will be retained for 12 months, or until you revoke your consent, whichever comes first.
  • Banned Users: If you are disqualified for cheating, we will retain a minimal cryptographic hash of your email address to enforce the lifetime ban on future EUSEC events based on our Legitimate Interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
  • Legal Retention: Data subject to commercial or tax retention laws (e.g., if you win) will be retained for the legally required periods (usually up to 10 years in Germany).

4. Data Sharing and Processors

Your data is processed confidentially and is not sold to third parties. We use specialized service providers (Data Processors) to host the game infrastructure and manage databases. Our primary hosting provider is ALL-INKL.COM - Neue Medien Münnich (Hauptstraße 68, 02742 Friedersdorf, Germany). This provider acts strictly on our instructions and is bound by a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) in accordance with Art. 28 GDPR. All our core servers are located within Germany.

5. Your Rights as a Data Subject

Under the GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right to Access (Art. 15): Request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Right to Rectification (Art. 16): Ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Right to Erasure (Art. 17): Request the deletion of your data ("Right to be forgotten").
  • Right to Restriction (Art. 18): Ask us to pause the processing of your data.
  • Right to Data Portability (Art. 20): Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.

I actively engage the organizer to act as my job broker.The organizer may share my pseudonymized game results with potential employers. My real name and contact data will NEVER be shared without my prior, explicit consent for a specific job match.
